There is an exciting opportunity taking place right now for those who want to participate in horse activities. The American Horse Council’s Time To Ride is looking to introduce new people to horses through activities that will give a positive first experience. Hundreds of local stables are hosting events across the nation. Stables, businesses and organizations are collaborating to help people connect with horse for the first time.
Trail riding, rodeo, camps, lessons, English, western, reining, Olympic sports, racing, breed organizations are all joining together to host hundreds of events nationwide to introduce anyone interested to horses. A free “National Met a Horse Day” on July 25 at a stable, barn or facility near you. There is an interactive map on the site to help you find an opportunity close to you. There is a program going on all summer to introduce new people to horses (May 30 – Sept 30, 2015).
The effort has broad sponsorship including American Association of Equine Practitioners, Purina, American Quarter Hose Association, Merck, US Equestrian Team and others interested in broader public engagement with horse. EMSA encourages anyone interested to participate in horses to take this opportunity to get introduced to horse in this safe environment. If you choose to follow up with more horse activities we encourage you to use a helmet every time you get on a horse. Look for instruction that teaches you about horses, their habits and care as well as how to ride. Take the time to assure that the facility has a safety plan implemented through all of its activities.
